The Philippines, being dubbed as “the Texting Capital of the World”, is also a great market for cell phones and other high-tech gadgets like laptops/notebooks and MP3 players. In my opinion, Filipinos are truly fascinated by cellular phones and other high-tech gadgets because of curiosity. We can’t say that every Filipino can afford to buy a Blackberry 8320 phone or a Nokia 5800 Xpressmusic cell phones but Filipino culture saw that everything new and shiny is attractive to many Pinoys.

Not so long ago, Information Technology (IT) was a very hot course in the Philippines. in the early 90’s everybody wanted to take up BS Computer Science, BS Information Technology and other computer-related fields of specialization. Today, those students who took up IT and IT-related courses are the ones complaining about their salaries and seeking higher rates.

The Philippine Overseas Employment Agency (POEA) stated that there are many job opportunities for Filipino (Pinoy) OFWs in Asian countries like Brunei, Taiwan, Singapore and South Korea. Although the application process for these countries are not the same, these countries need more professionals and skilled workers. The job opportunities for Pinoy abroad are indeed a partial answer to Philippine unemployment.

The BBC show “Harry and Paul” shows a Filipina maid teasing a Northerner. According to the script, Harry (the boss of the Filipina maid) ordered the act – the Filipina maid to mate with his friend. This show was according to many viewers an act of racism. A racist show like “Harry and Paul” is now being asked by Philippine government officials for a public apology.

Senator Richard Gordon proposed through Senate Bill 2402 that text messaging should be taxed in the Philippines. As early as now, many Filipinos have expressed dismay over this bill. Interviewed cell phone users are disgusted and complained that this “TEXT TAX” is abusive and unfair to the consumers (in this case, the subscribers).

This news about spa business in the Philippines got me interested. Partly, this explains why even in Ilocos Norte, my home province, spas are everywhere especially in hotels and entertainment centers. As a writer who deals with health topics and issues in one of my other sites, I strongly believe that this business can prosper even in areas outside the Greater Manila Area (GMA).
An excerpt from Manila Bulletin stated that the busy lifestyles of many Filipinos and their awareness to the benefits of spa treatments have greatly contributed to the boom of spa establishments in the country.
“People who go to spa want a feel-good therapy,” says Karen Dalagan, Marketing Manager of FSalon and Body Spa.

Ruffa Gutierrez Picture
The whilrwind relationhip of Ruffa Gutierrez and estranged husbang Yilmaz Bektas (a Turkish) prompted Ruffa Gutierrez to file an annulment of their marriage. Ruffa Gutierrez, by the way is a former Binibining Pilipinas World in 1993.
In the early days of her Philippine showbiz career, Ruffa Gutierrez appeared in movies such as: Huwag kang hahalik sa diablo (1989), Regal Shocker: The Movie (1989) …. Heroes Season 2 comes to the Philippines on Star World
I’ve been watching the marathon run of Heroes Season 1 because I’ve missed a lot of episodes. Heroes Season 2 will invade the Philippine airwaves (Star World cable channel) starting September 6, 2008 at 9pm immediately following “Bionic Woman”. I love sci-fi TV series and “Heroes” is one of my favorites. Other favorites of this author is 4400. Heroes Season 2 packs more action, more superpowers and new characters. I really just can’t wait to watch this show.
