Latest Text Scam: The Philippine Charity Foundation (PCF) Text Scam

Are you addicted to texting? If yes, then be warned about the latest Philippine Charity Foundation (PCF) Text Scam where my wife was almost victimized by a certain Janet Lim who allegedly was an employee of the Philippines Charity Foundation.

Here is my wife’s story below:

Recently, I received a text message saying, “Notice from the PCF or Philippine Charity Foundation”. The text message reads

Sir/Ma’am congratulations! You’re the lucky winner for the last 4-digit of your cell phone number. You had won 560,000 pesos when the PCF have national fund raising activities yesterday, October 01, 2008. Please text you’re complete name and address. For more information, call me now. I’m Janet C. Lim… permit #2631 series of 2008.” The number that sent the message is a typical cell phone number for personal use.

I’ve already heard about text scams that asked for bank deposits or money transfers prior to claiming you’re price. The prize was too good to be true so I became curious. The number called and I answered it. The alleged, Miss Janet Lim started explaining how I won 560,000 pesos and mentioned that this was courtesy of the President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo to help Filipinos. Ms. Lim said, she was assigned to contact me and started asking for details. I gave her a false name and address. She also asked on what method I want to claim my prize, whether it will be via bank to bank transfer, LBC or Western Union. I answered Western Union. Then she ended the call and promised to call after five minutes, instructing me to take a piece of paper and a pen to take down the requirements for claiming. By Miss Lim’s way of speaking, I could tell that she’s an expert in fraud.

Five minutes later, Ms. Lim calls again dictating the following requirements: Birth certificate, 2×2 ID photo (2 pieces), a valid ID and the most important that she emphasized was the PIN number. What I heard at first was TIN number, she corrected me by saying it was PIN code or PIN number. This time, the final requirement doesn’t sound right. She continued, the PIN codes should come from cell phone prepaid cards amounting 300 pesos. Miss Lim was asking for 6 pin codes which meant I need to buy 6 sets of PIN numbers amounting to 1800 pesos. She said, 3 PIN numbers will be written in front of the check and another 3 at the back. She knew I wasn’t buying her stunt, so she tried manipulating me by telling me not to worry about the amount I will spend because it’s refundable. Then she ended the call.

After the last call, I immediately searched the internet about Philippine Charity Foundation. I’ve stumbled upon legit sites and forums discussing the modus operandi and victims of PCF. This confirmed my suspicion that PCF is a SCAM!!! Thank God I wasn’t one of victims.

I also received similar email last June coming from PCF kuno. 950K daw napanalunan ko, marami na siguro sana akong pang burger haha. Pero dinedma ko, then pinadalhan ko ng msg na manloloko sya, alam ko na mga techniques nilang bulok. Buti hindi nya ako tinawagan, baka wala pang nagpapadala sa kanya ng pin code.

Hindi ko nga binubura yung msg hanggang ngayon. Yung teacher ni Sean meron ding nareciv halos ganyan din. Pinabasa ko rin sa kanya yung nareciv kong text.

Ano ba yang mga taong yan buhay pa eh sinusunog na mga kaluluwa s impyerno. Ang kakapal ng mukha, mga manloloko! Grrrr!

Naku wag kang maniniwala dyan. Kalokohan ng mga frauds yang mga ganyang text scams. Madaling magpalit ng SIM card kaya ingat lang sa mga nagtetext ng mga ganyan.

hi, i was almost scammed by this same fake charity organisation and the name of the attorney is Leah B. Acosta ( Auditor of Philippines Charity Foundation ) and the number he used is +639099730629 . they said that my sim card had won Php 780,000.00 and the draw was held on june 25 2009. they also put DTI#4778S’09.

I just received the same exect text scam from V.Pres. Atty.Rex A. Mendez of 09057639010, ‘charity foundation’.
I called & reported the matter to Globe Hotline # 730-1000 ( or for Smart Hotline # 888-1111)and requested that the cp # be blocked to avoid further text scam. I urge you all to take a little time & effort in doing the same.
I do hope that this little effort will lessen the abuse of text messaging.
More power to us all…
Though, sim #’s could still be easily purchased, at least the network(Globe or Smart) is willing to take immediate actions toward the cp # of the text scam as well as the name of the person sending the text scam.

thanks for the info. at least may additional info para sa ibang readers ng site na to. dapat talagang wakasan na yang panloloko ng PCF. talamak na talaga ang text scam na yan anywhere in the Philippines. gumamit na sila ng napakaraming alias including their name (Philippine Charity Foundation) which is non-existent. Mga loko talga ang mga yan.

Hi, i received a call frm my sis-in-law saying that she won 850K.. the caller says that he’s frm Phil. Charity Foundation. He even called her twice.. asking for the 2% or 17, 1800..upon receving the said amount…he will deposit the price money.

Ganito na ba ang mundo natin… puro manololoko… he even says na taga-central bank sya at pwedeng i-check anytime..

im hoping this scam will stop… sana magaan ng paraan ng mga taga-media na mahuli sila… tutal taga-media kayo..please educate ur audience…

sa mga frauds out there!!! masunog sana ang kaluluwa nyo sa impyerno!!!

Dapat i-trace yan ng NTC, kayang-kaya nila i-triangulate yung mga manloloko na yan. Meron pa ako buhay na number, kung sino dyan me equipment na taga-gobyerno, i-trace sila para mapakulong nila agad sila.

i received one, too. ang napanalunan ko raw ay P945K. the message came from JOMAR OCAMPO WITH CP NUMBER 0929 685 8554. these criminals of the org PHILIPPINE CHARITY FOUNDATION think people are stupid!

i challeged you either smart or globe or any other existing prepaid sim card. let us put some system into our nation.. it is now time to register every prepaid card under the persons information, requiring a valid identification card.. im telling you this system will help us.

hi, i also received a text mesage informing me that my cellphone number had won 800,000.00..well, i know it’s a scam that’s why i searched the net about hotline numbers so that i can report it.. the DTI hotline is 888-8231 local 1216, NTC hotline is 926-7722.. for information of others.. i hope these culprits will be caught.. tnx! everyone..beware!! and be aware!!

may pinag aralan nga, ginagamit naman sa panloloko! ung mga scammers na yan-hindi lng kayo ang naghihirap sa mundo pero we are all working our butts off to make a living sa paraan na katanggap tangap sa Diyos at tao.

im one of the victim of this sikat text scam. this mornng i recieve a txt msg that says, the pcf had drwn last nyt and your number won the second prize 950000 with presidentGMA foundation inc. im miss janeth lim, pleasecall me now”. luckily i di not believe with this scam. sa lahat na di pa nabiktima beware of this number 09065050558.

Para sa mga tulad kong biktima… at least we’ve learned from it. My story goes like this…
I received a txt message from Mr. Robert T. Valdez of Casino Filipino.
Thru out my curiosity and a need of money I called the number as he had stated…
A visayan accent man answered…
He asked for so many things like my name, complete address. age, accnt. no. and 3 prepaid cards worth of 300 pesos each which I had given to them all only to realize later that I am being fooled…

Hayzzttt…and later these last passing days I still receive same messages…

Well… Diyos na ang bahala sa kanila… tingin q lang talaga manhid na cla dahil sa dameh ng mga masasamang curses sa kanila di man lang cla natinag…

huhuhu…. sayang yung almost 1000pesos q…jjejejejeje

i just received same text scam and i ngpretend ako n cnasakyan ko ung text nla i gave my false name and address, di pa cia 2matawag skin. cguro i suggest po n mganda pg isa lng ang sim per person lifetime number na kagaya sa taiwan when i was still there…they only allowed one sim for every person and it was registered. para d n mkpanloko ung mdami jan. kc paano ung mga hindi aware sa ganitong scam mdami p cla maloloko…

nakatanggap din po ako nyan sya daw si merly capuno at nanalo daw ako ng 560,000.00. natawa lang ako kasi meron bang PCF na magbibigay pa ng pera eh di ba mas nangangailangan nga ang charity foundation ng pera para sa mahihirap nating kababayan. eto po no. nun merly 09294217260. Kapag nakakatanggap ako ng ganito nagsesearch agad ako sa internet. Salamat sa mga ganitong comments about scam kasi sa pamamagitan nito marami sa kapwa natin ang hindi nagpapadala sa ganitong scam.

I got the same message this morning saying i won 2nd prize of 780,000 from PCF. Message came from Atty Marlon Tan DTI permit #0758 series of 09 from cell# 09269126889. I already know its a scam cause its not the proper way to inform winners =) just sharing para maiwasan ng iba

Recently this morning, i received a text from Luis C. Villa, as per DTI permit #1344 Sereis of 2009, from the Philippine Charity Foundation, my sim had won Php950,000.00 for 2nd prize.

At first alam ko na scam but i called him para pagalitan. by the tone of his voice, matandang lalaki, medyo kabado at magaspang, boses nya manloloko na.

He asked for my complete address, name, and other detials (kapal ng mukha). pero di ko binigay.

kung gusto nyo siyang guluhin, here’s his number 09076138694.
