Brandon Vera, the only Filipino fighter in the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) is going to take part in UFC 85 to be held in London, England. Many Filipino fight fans like those rooting for the Pacquiao vs. Diaz Fight in Las Vegas will soon be given another good treat with a combination of punches, kicks and exciting moves in the world of Mixed Martial Arts in UFC 85 showcasing Filipinos’ very own Brandon Vera whose fight with Tim Sylvia was a disappointment.
Dianne Castillejo reported in ABS-CBN News website that London, England will host the UFC 85 event. England or the UK is the most frequent host of big events in UFC as of late because of the British people’s huge love for MMA. The British are huge fans of the sport that uses a combination of skills in boxing, jujitsu, Muay Thai, wrestling, and grappling
The popular O2 Arena in London will be the venue for Sunday’s bouts. Tickets are already sold out for fight night.
The cast of fighters who will battle it out inside the octagon cage are complete.
The main bout has two-time welterweight champion and sure Hall of Famer Matt Hughes going up against a young exciting star from Brazil, Thiago Alves.

Brandon is 8-1 in the UFC, while Werdum has a record of 10 wins, three losses and one draw, and is ranked 5th in this weight class.
“I’m very excited. Maganda ‘yong fans dito sa London eh, malakas yung boses nila. Kapag pumasok ka sa O2 Arena, parang (kumakabog) ‘yong building pag nagsisigaw na sila,” Vera said.
Vera and Werdum practiced one after another at the same workout room of the hotel.
Brandon spent a lot of time working his stand up skills — boxing, kicks and grappling. Werdum did the same. Both had a multitude of coaches working with them.
Brandon said the Brazilian will be a tough opponent.
“Magaling siya sa boxing, magaling siya sa sipa, magaling siya sa wrestling niya, magaling siya sa jiujitsu niya. ‘Yong condition niya magaling, he’s good [in] everything,” he said.
Werdum had equal respect for Vera.
Both fighters looked in great shape at practice. Vera wants to dictate and bring out his best weapon.
“Ang kamay ko. Yung combination ko sa kamay… I hope to use it well,” he said.
The UFC fights are three intense rounds of five minutes each. The fights on UFC 85 will be viewed live in about 100 countries, giving Brandon Vera a huge opportunity to show the world what the Pinoy can do in top notch mixed martial arts fighting.
