I’m so proud of Manny Pacquiao’s fight against David Diaz today which ended in a knockout in Round number 9. Pacman showed very good skills in cutting the ring and outboxing Diaz. Manny Pacquiao showed excellent conditioning and hand speed which were instrumental in his victory against the now former WBC Lightweight champion, David Diaz. Manny Pacquiao is now the WBC Lightweight champion of the world at the 135-pound division - his fourth world championship title in four divisions.

My favorite female player, Maria Sharapova, was eliminated from the Wimbledon 2008 Championships.  I just saw it on TV and I was disappointed.  She was eliminated by a player ranked 154 in the world - Alla Kudryavtseva, another Russian.

Sharapova committed 8 or 9 double faults and she seemed to be out of rhythm in the later part of the game.  Maybe she was under too much pressure.  But it’s no excuse.  This young lady will be back and I think it will be soon.  The US Open may be her chance to regain the lost glory at Wimbledon. :-)
Her defeat to Kudryavtseva was only in the second round of the competition.

I have become a fan of Maria Sharapova since she won the Australian open in January of 2008. On the second day of Wimbledon 2008, she was looking great and ready to kick some a$$.

See some of her photos in Wimbledon 2008. What do you think are Maria Sharapova’s chances?

The much-anticipated rematch between Oscar Dela Hoya and Floyd Mayweather turned out to be a disappointment to boxing fans worldwide due to the retirement of Floyd Mayweather, Jr. from boxing Friday last week.

The announcement was actually the fourth (if I’m not mistaken) made by Floyd Mayweather, Jr. after announcing his retirement in 2006 just after his fight with Baldomir, and twice in 2007 after fighting Dela Hoya and Hatton for the Middleweight championship titles.

The Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) will come to the Philippines, Dana White (UFC President) announced at the post-fight conference of UFC 85. This is in response to Filipino fighter Brandon Vera’s complaint about the premature stoppage by the referee during Vera’s fight with Fabricio Werdum.

Undefeated Juan Manuel Lopez of Puerto Rico knocked out Daniel Ponce De Leon on the first round for another impressive victory over the Mexican fighter. The match-up was great because the two fighters are hard hitters but Juan Manuel Lopez simply outclassed and outboxed Ponce De Leon tonight showing the world that he deserves to be number one in his weight class.

I’ve just seen the Pavlik-Lockett fight on cable and the way I see it, the match was a mismatch. WBO/WBC middleweight champion Kelly Pavlik’s (33-0, 29 KOs) and challenger Gary Lockett (30-1, 21 KOs) squared off for three rounds and the challenger took the knee (knocked down) twice in the first round before he got knocked out in the 3rd round.

Pacquiao vs. Diaz is going to be one hell of a match, I’m sure. Boxing experts (including this writer) predict that Manny “Pacman” Pacquiao will defeat David Diaz when they face each other on June 29 (Philippine time) for the WBC Lightweight Championship match in Las Vegas. The Pacquaio-Diaz fight is expected to be Pacquiao’s most challenging fight ever because it will be his first time to fight in the 135-lb division. Filipinos are crazy over the Pacquiao-Diaz match-up and all activities in the Philippines is expected to slow down (if not come to a halt) on June 29, 2008 (Sunday @ 9am to be aired on Solar All-Access). The Pacquiao-Diaz fight is predicted to be one of the biggest match-ups in boxing history.
