Marquez-Casamayor fight result: Marquez won! Juan Manuel Marquez defeated Joel Casamayor via a knockout in the 11th round for the Ring Magazine Lightweight Championship title. The match was held at MGM Grand Garden. Marquez won the belt on Mexico’s Independence day in Las Vegas.

Casamayor came out strong who won the first two rounds but during the middle of the fight, Marquez showed his great tactical skills on the ring. It was actually a chess match because the momentum shifts from one fighter to another.

In the end, Juan Manuel Marquez’ variety of punches proved to be very dangerous. He hit Casamayor with a barrage of punches in Round 11 which sent the latter to the canvass two times. In the second knockdown, the referee stopped the fight seeing that Joel Casamayor is clearly unable to continue to fight after receiving at least 20 punches from Juan Manuel Marquez.

Marquez aims to face Pacquiao for their third fight in 2009.
